Dentistry for children

We’re always keen to welcome children to our practice – after all, the sooner they pick up good dental habits, the better for their teeth and gums.

This includes:

Some general tips on children’s tooth care include:

  • Start brushing your child’s teeth with fluoride toothpaste as soon as the first tooth appears
  • Brush last thing at night and on at least one other occasion
  • Supervise brushing until at least 7 years old to make sure teeth are cleaned properly with the right amount of toothpaste
  • Children under 3 should use a smear of toothpaste containing no less than 1000ppm fluoride, ages 3-6 no more than a pea-sized amount with more than 1000ppm, and ages 7 to young adults toothpaste with1350-1500 ppm fluoride
  • Children should spit out after brushing, not rinse, so the fluoride isn’t washed away
  • Never allow a child to lick or eat toothpaste from the tube
  • Limit the number of times your child consumes sugary foods and drinks to reduce risk of decay
