Orthodontics
Orthodontics is a specialist area of dentistry that focuses on diagnosing, preventing and treating dental irregularities. Orthodontic treatment can have significant aesthetic benefits and improve self confidence by improving your smile.
Orthodontic treatments
Metal or Ceramic (clear) Braces: These are the most traditional and well-known orthodontic appliances. Braces consist of brackets attached to the teeth and wires that are adjusted over time to gradually move the teeth into their desired positions. Ceramic braces are clear and blend in with your teeth to make them less visible.
Clear Aligners: These are a more discreet alternative to traditional braces. Clear aligners, such as Invisalign or Spark, are a series of transparent, removable trays that gradually shift the teeth into proper alignment.
Lingual Braces: These are completely invisible braces which are placed behind your teeth to straighten them without anyone seeing them.
Functional Appliances: These appliances are often used to modify the growth of the jaws in growing children to correct skeletal discrepancies and improve bite relationships.
Retainers: After active orthodontic treatment, retainers are used to ensure your teeth stay straight and prevent your teeth from shifting back to their original position.
Invisalign® Clear Aligners
One of the most popular ways of straightening teeth, Invisalign is a series of clear, removable flexible plastic aligners that gently move teeth without brackets or wires. We’ll create a unique treatment plan mapping out the exact movements of your teeth, and the aligners are designed to apply just the right amount of force based on that plan. Progress is constantly monitored to ensure the aligners fit correctly.
Benefits include a more comfortable fit during treatment with no restrictions on what you can eat or drink – you simply remove the aligners for eating, drinking, brushing and flossing. Occasionally treatment may involve ‘attachments’ added to certain teeth to help the aligners work more effectively, or IPR (Interproximal Reduction) to repair crowded teeth, but whatever is needed we’ll be with you every step of the way.
